Cenovus Energy is a large integrated oil and gas company that was formed when Encana split into two companies. Cenovus is mainly focused on oil production.
Cenovus produces its conventional oil from the Deep Basin in NW Alberta and NE BC.
It is also involved in heavy oil production around the Lloydminster area. Most of the heavy oil is produced with the CHOPS (cold heavy oil production with sand) method.
Most of the oil sands production is done using SAGD and the main areas of the operation are Cold Lake and Fort McMurray.
Cenovus is also involved in offshore projects around Newfoundland and Labrador and in the Asia Pacific region.
It also owns a number of upgrading and refining facilities both in Canada and the US.
In 2021 Cenovus acquired Husky Energy.
