Cardinal Energy is mainly focused on producing light and medium oil from the properties throughout Alberta and SE Saskatchewan.
It uses CO2 to perform Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) on some of its properties to increase oil production beyond what is possible with primary recovery methods.
Enhanced oil recovery is a set of techniques used to increase the amount of oil that can be extracted from an oilfield. These techniques can include injecting water, gas, or chemicals into the reservoir to push oil out of the rock; using thermal methods to heat the oil and make it flow more easily; or using microorganisms to break down the oil.
